Regional Hospital

Current System Configuration

  • Hospital has 400+ phones
  • Eight remote clinics
  • Clinics connected via fiber optics WAN
  • Seven PRIs total
  • VOIP phone systems at all clinics/legacy phone system at hospital

Challenges

  • 22 year-old PBX at hospital: no support, no parts, inflexible, costly to maintain, HUGE liability, single-point-of-failure
  • Economic down-turn prohibits 2009 or 2010 hospital upgrade
  • Need a single-system unified communications system for site-to-site presence management, administration, fail-over, and intelligent call routing

Solutions

  • Install 3 MB IP connection from hospital network to Internet service telephony provider (ITSP) with end-to-end QOS
  • Provision SIP trunks on 3MB connection
  • Port most DIDs and numbers from clinics to SIP service
  • Route all long distance calling over SIP trunks
  • Route most inbound/outbound calling over SIP trunks
  • Terminate all but two PRI services
